Commonwealth Emergency Physicians is an independent, physician owned staffing company providing professional medical services in collaboration with the Inova Health System. Our three divisions: Commonwealth Emergency Physicians – Loudoun, Commonwealth Emergency Physicians – Mount Vernon and Commonwealth Critical Care, provide compassionate, expert care to the patients we are privileged to serve.
Founded in 2001 as an independent, physician owned emergency medicine group staffing the emergency room at the former Loudoun Hospital Center, Commonwealth Emergency Physicians has expanded to support the growing needs of the community. Now a comprehensive medical staffing company, Commonwealth Emergency Physicians is a group of board certified/board eligible physicians and advanced practice providers specializing in emergency medicine, pediatric emergency medicine, pediatric hospitalist medicine, critical care, and concussion management. We now provide professional medical services in Loudoun and Fairfax counties. Over our 25 year relationship with the Inova Health System, Commonwealth Emergency Physicians has collaborated on multiple past endeavors including adult hospitalist medicine, adult urgent care, pediatric urgent care, trauma and acute care surgery services.

Commonwealth Emergency Physicians delivers compassionate, expert emergency care for adults and children. We are board certified/board eligible emergency medicine physicians and highly qualified advanced practice providers dedicated to the care of acutely ill and injured patients. Our physicians and advanced practice providers support medical direction for Loudoun County Combined Fire and Rescue System, and are involved in many local hospital and health system committees and initiatives.

Pediatric Emergency Care at Inova Loudoun Hospital
Our pediatric emergency medicine physicians and pediatric advanced practice providers (physician assistants and nurse practitioners) are not only experts in their field, but they also love what they do – taking care of kids when they need it most. We work collaboratively with Inova’s experienced and professional pediatric emergency nurses, child life specialists and support team to provide compassionate, family-centered care for your child from birth through 21 years of age. We care for over 20,000 patients per year in our eleven room, child friendly dedicated pediatric emergency department. At a time when many pediatric inpatient units have closed, Inova Loudoun Hospital is fortunate to have a pediatric inpatient unit and pediatric hospitalists to care for patients who need to stay in the hospital. When our patients need more complex care, we collaborate with our pediatric specialty partners at the Inova L. J. Murphy Children’s Hospital at the Inova Fairfax Medical Campus.
Considering the following advanced practice providers candidates: pediatric nurse practitioner, family nurse practitioner or physician assistant. Two years pediatric experience in an acute care setting is preferred.

Pediatric Inpatient Care at Inova Loudoun Hospital
On our pediatric inpatient unit at Inova Loudoun Hospital, we care for your child as our own. Our pediatric hospitalist physicians, board certified/board eligible in pediatric hospital medicine and general pediatrics, and pediatric advanced practice providers, are experts in the care of acutely ill and injured children. Since 2005, we have worked collaboratively with Inova’s pediatric certified nursing and support staff providing compassionate, family-centered care for your child from birth through 21 years of age. Approximately 2,000 patients per year are cared for in the beautiful, kid friendly pediatric inpatient unit featuring 14 private rooms, children’s activity room and amenities for families. Inova’s certified Child Life specialists ease anxiety and stress supporting both children and families through illness. The full complement of pediatric specialists of Pediatric Specialists of Virginia and Inova L. J. Murphy Children’s Hospital at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus are available for consultation by phone and transfer if a higher level of care is needed.

Emergency Care in Fairfax County, VA
Founded in 2015, Commonwealth Emergency Physicians – Mount Vernon is an independent, physician-owned emergency medicine group consisting of board-certified/board-eligible emergency medicine physicians and advanced practice providers. We provide compassionate, expert emergency medical services to patients served at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital in Alexandria, Virginia, and Inova Healthplex – Lorton, Virginia.
Commonwealth Emergency Physicians – Mount Vernon is committed to the communities we serve. Many of our physicians have worked at Inova Mount Vernon for decades. We have a long-standing history of community engagement. Many of our physicians hold or have held leadership positions within Inova Mount Vernon Hospital, Inova Health System, and the Virginia College of Emergency Physicians.

Inova Concussion Clinics
Concussion Management
Commonwealth Emergency Physicians provides professional medical services as part of the multi-disciplinary Inova Concussion Clinics at Inova Loudoun Hospital in Leesburg, Virginia and Inova Mount Vernon Hospital in Alexandria, Virginia. With over a decade of experience in concussion management, our medical providers specialize in the care of concussed children and adults whose head injury occurred within the past 4 months. In concert with our Inova rehabilitation colleagues, we provide comprehensive, evidence-based concussion management. Utilizing the most up-to-date guidelines and literature, our medical providers identify subtle signs and symptoms of concussion and create a personalized plan to aid recovery and supervise return to play and work. Over our partnership with the Inova Concussion Clinics, we have worked with local schools, sports clubs, office practices and organizations educating the community about mild traumatic brain injury.

Commonwealth Critical Care is a critical care provider staffing company delivering professional medical services at Inova Loudoun Hospital in Leesburg, Virginia. Our board-certified critical care, pulmonary, and internal medicine physicians and critical care advanced practice providers give compassionate, expert care to critically ill patients in both the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) and Intermediate Medical Care Unit (IMCU) at Inova Loudoun Hospital.
As Loudoun County continues to grow, the demand for specialized, high-quality critical care has never been higher. To meet this need, Commonwealth Critical Care was founded in 2021 along with two highly experienced intensivists who have dedicated their careers to the care of critically ill patients at Inova Loudoun Hospital. Their mission is to provide the highest level of professional, advanced medical services to support the community and continuously expand the care available for our critically ill patients.
